Almost 6 years ago I lost my father to Cancer, it's so hard to believe that that much time has gone by already. It certainly doesn't seem like that long ago, and definitely doesn't feel that way. I still sometimes expect to see him when I go to visit my Mom. it is somewhat comforting to know that he is still "close to home", the graveyard is up on a big hill, which is pretty much behind where I grew up and where family still lives, he is literally above us, looking down here on Earth as well as from Heaven.
For years I have been wanting to find a way to display a certain photo of him, and for it to be more memorable and meanful than just a photo in a frame, and since I've been doing a lot of work with wood lately, here is what I came up with.

A 4x6 piece of 2x4 painted black is what I attached the photo to, I used Mod Podge to attach and seal the photo. The base is a 10 inch long piece, again painted black. It took me a while to figure out what to put on as a saying. I really didn't want to use names, or dates, again I wanted it to be more meaningful. It was difficult because I had little space to work with ands had to keep it short. I finally came across the saying "Remember Me This Way..." on
http://www.scrapbook.com/ and I knew it was PERFECT!
I knew I wanted to add a small candle to the project, so I went to the dollar store thinking I'd just get a Votife Candle and a holder for it, but instead I found this solid black cube candle.... and it was PERFECT! Even the bling added a little something extra without being over the top.
Over all I LOVE how this turned out, and am so glad to have my Dad out in the open instead of just in an album somewhere in my home.
Thanks so much for stopping by today, until next time...
Happy Crafting
